Eye-Movement desensitization reprocessing therapy (EMDR)

This approach can be used for various presenting concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and acute stress. EMDR is a gold standard approach for those who have PTSD.

EMDR focuses on the individual’s present concerns. This approach believes past emotionally-charged experiences are overly influencing your present emotions, sensations, and thoughts about yourself. EMDR processing helps you break from emotional blocks that are keeping you from enjoying an emotionally healthy life. Your therapist will ask some questions to activate the negative experience and the desired adaptive response. EMDR uses rapid sets of eye movements, lights, tones, or other modes that you follow using your eyes or tapping. You will be encouraged to “free associate” and allow the brain to process. In between the sets of movements, your therapist will ask you what you’re noticing. Any new insights will be processed with your therapist and integrated into your daily life.

An EMDR session can be done in 50 minutes. The length of treatment depends on the complexity of your concerns.
