Couples Therapy

NuHealing Therapy & Wellness Center offers couples two approaches to addressing relational conflict, improving bonds, communication, and conflict resolution skills. If you are interested in couples counselling and/or attending the workshop, please email us directly for an appointment.

1. The Gottman Method: Dr. John and Dr. Julie Gottman have devoted their careers to studying couples over decades and through their research have discovered what determines the success of a marriage or relationship. They developed The Gottman Method whose goals include:

  • disarming conflicting verbal communication
  • increase intimacy, respect, and affection
  • remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy
  • increase empathy and understanding within the relationship.

The Gottmans have developed several workshops based on their research and we have the honor to be able to offer the following: The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work workshop, based on the book of the same name by Dr. John Gottman. If you are interested in this group, please email the center to be put on the waitlist for the next group.

2. Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples – Sue Johnson

Dr. Sue Johnson is the developer of Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples.

A therapist trained in EFT will help each partner approach conflict in a way that does not include negativity, criticism, or neglect and help each individual to respond to one another in a secure and loving way. The primary goal is to re-establish secure patterns of responding to one another that create effective, loving, and emotional bonds.
